Etnikas Ayahuasca Retreats

San Salvador, Sacred Valley, Cusco, Peru

Etnikas operates an ayahuasca retreat centre in San Salvador in Peru’s Sacred Valley, about two hours from Machu Picchu, offering 3-, 5- and 7-day programs facilitated in English. Its model pairs indigenous practitioners — Shipibo healers from the Amazon and Qero (Andean) practitioners — with a clinical team the operator describes as including psychiatrists, cardiologists, internal-medicine physicians, nurses and psychologists.

Etnikas publishes specific medical screening requirements: a doctor’s letter confirming general health before attending, physical and psychological health questionnaires, and a stress test for participants over 50. The operator states a doctor is present during ayahuasca ceremonies with access to emergency medical equipment. Groups run at up to 18 people, and the 5-day program includes three ayahuasca ceremonies alongside Andean ceremonial practices, meditation and group discussion.

The operator’s materials cite more than 650 TripAdvisor reviews and a Certificate of Excellence.

As of July 2026 Etnikas publishes pricing on its website: from USD $700 for the 3-day program (approx. A$977*), $1,100 for the 5-day (approx. A$1,535*) and $1,700 for the 7-day (approx. A$2,372*); flights are not included.

This program is held in Peru, where traditional ayahuasca ceremony is legal and culturally protected (see our Peru destination guide). Ayahuasca (which contains DMT) is a prohibited substance in Australia. Australians travel at their own responsibility; this is not medical advice.
