The Netherlands banned magic mushrooms (fruiting bodies) in 2008 under the Opium Act, adding them to List II. Truffles (sclerotia) — the underground part of the same fungus — were excluded from that ban on a botanical technicality and are instead regulated as a food product under the Commodities Act. Adults 18+ can legally buy, possess, and consume truffles from licensed "smartshops," with no personal possession limit stated.
